Cargojet Wins Prestigious Ontario Business Award

September 29, 2009

Toronto – Cargojet has been named one of 12 provincial winners of The Ontario Business Achievement Awards (OBAA) and the Ontario Global Traders Awards (OGTA) by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce.

“Ontario is a world leader in innovation and technology and it is essential that we recognize the companies that have brought the province to the world stage,” says Len Crispino, President and CEO of the OCC. “But not only are they creating much-needed jobs in communities throughout the province, they’re also providing solutions to global problems.  Cargojet demonstrates the necessary perseverance and determination necessary to succeed.”

Cargojet will receive the OBAA Desjardins Award for Large Business.

“Cargojet is very honoured to receive this prestigious award.  It is a true testament to the hard work and commitment of our team and the continued loyalty and support of all of our customers and our suppliers.  As Canada's Cargo Airline, based at Hamilton International Airport, Cargojet continues to contribute to the growth and economic activity by providing hundreds of skilled and unskilled jobs to Ontario,” said Ajay K. Virmani, President and CEO of Cargojet.

The following are some of the reasons why Cargojet was chosen for the award:

  • Increased revenues and profitability year after year
  • Strong growth in existing markets
  • Commitment to community development and employee support

"We were very pleased to have nominated Cargojet for an Ontario Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Achievement Award.  Not only are they a well-deserved recipient of a Hamilton Chamber OBAA, they are also reflective of the growing strength of our transportation and logistics industry in this region.  Effective and efficient goods movement is a fundamental economic enabler essential to revitalize not only our crucial advanced manufacturing sector, but also all business sectors generally.  As a vital component to future job and prosperity growth in Ontario, it is important that the achievements of industry leaders in transportation and logistics be suitably recognized in this period of economic recovery.  Innovative companies like Cargojet are indeed making "Ontario - a Magnet for the World." says John Dolbec CEO of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce.

The OBAA Desjardins Award for Large Business will be one of six categories presented.  The remaining are: the Award for Small Business, the OGTA HSBC Award for Innovation – Export, the OGTA Market Expansion Award (Product or Service), the Innovation Technology Award and the Corporate Governance Award. OGTA categories have gold, silver and bronze sub-category winners.

Awards will be presented at a gala event, which will be attended, by approximately 1,000 business and political leaders at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Wednesday, November 25th, hosted by CBC’s Dragons’ Den co-stars Arlene Dickinson and Kevin O’Leary.
